Soul Brew team

Soul Brew has never been about one DJ. It’s about the people who make every event special.

Our resident DJs bring together well over a century of experience behind the decks, united by one passion: playing exceptional music on vinyl. From Northern Soul, Motown and R&B to ska, rocksteady, modern soul and dancefloor gems you won’t hear everywhere else, every set is built to keep the floor moving.

But Soul Brew is much more than the DJs. Since 2017, it’s been shaped by an incredible community of dancers, collectors, photographers, volunteers, venue partners and regulars. They’re the familiar faces who travel for a Sunday session, the crate diggers still chasing the next great 45, and the friends who make every event feel like coming home.

Whether you’ve lived and breathed soul music for decades or you’re discovering it for the first time, you’ll always find a warm welcome at Soul Brew.

Vintage vinyl for the dancefloor. Great music. Great people. Good times.

Looking for a DJ who cares as much about the music as you do? Book Marc

Marc Silverside has spent a lifetime searching for great records and memorable dancefloors. A collector, DJ and promoter with roots in London’s Mod Revival and Northern Soul scene, he believes the best nights aren’t defined by genres or rare records—they’re created by great music, welcoming people and the moment a packed dancefloor comes alive.

Marc Silverside’s musical journey began in London, where growing up in one of the world’s most vibrant music cities exposed him to an incredible mix of sounds and cultures. Soul, ska, reggae, Mod, punk, new wave and indie all became part of the soundtrack that shaped his musical outlook.

His introduction to Northern Soul came during the Mod Revival of 1979. Like so many Mods of that era, one musical discovery led to another, opening the door to all-nighters, all-dayers and record collecting that would become a lifelong passion.

Long before digital playlists, Marc was making mixtapes, DJing for friends and promoting club nights and live music while at college, bringing artists including Bad Manners, Desmond Dekker, The Prisoners, Rebel MC, K-Klass, Gilles Peterson and Utah Saints, among many others. Those early experiences reinforced a belief that the best nights aren’t defined by genre—they’re defined by atmosphere, community and unforgettable records.

Alongside a lifelong passion for music, Marc also spent three decades leading communications and engagement for some of the UK’s largest organisations including the NHS,

While Northern Soul remains a huge influence, Marc’s record boxes have never been confined to one scene. His collection reflects a lifetime of curiosity, spanning Atlantic, Stax and Motown alongside obscure American soul labels, Northern Soul, crossover, R&B, ska, rocksteady, funk, rare groove, Mod, 2 Tone, indie dance and Britpop.

Fifteen years ago, life brought Marc to Yorkshire. Keen to discover the local soul scene, one of his first stops was the legendary Brighouse Ritz, where by chance he found himself sitting next to Carl Eastwood and his dad, Stuart. What started as a conversation between three music lovers soon became an idea—to create the kind of soul night they wanted to attend themselves.

That conversation led to the first Soul Brew events at The Vine, West Vale, before the concept grew into the events and community it is today.

Alongside Soul Brew, Marc also created Cross The Tracks, celebrating the soundtrack of the mixtape generation through Soul, Ska, Mod, 2 Tone, Britpop, Madchester, Indie and alternative dancefloor classics. While the music may change, the philosophy remains exactly the same: carefully curated vinyl, welcoming people and music that means something.

“The best record isn’t always the rarest one. It’s the one that makes the whole room move.”

Steve Yendley’s love affair with soul music began more than fifty years ago. Like many of the original Soulies, it all started with a visit to Wigan Casino in October 1973. One night on that legendary dancefloor was enough to spark a lifelong passion for soul music, record collecting and DJing that continues to this day. Born in Beverley, East Yorkshire, Steve’s musical journey started even earlier.

By 1970 he was already helping to run school discos, setting up equipment and playing warm-up sets before landing his first regular DJ residency in Leeds in 1976. As work and life took him through Scarborough, Halifax and eventually Brighouse, the records always came with him. Throughout the 1980s and 90s Steve became a familiar face behind the decks in pubs, clubs and venues across West Yorkshire, including Halifax’s legendary Coliseum Nightclub. With more than 50 years of DJ experience, he’s built a reputation for reading a room, playing the right record at the right time and creating packed, happy dancefloors wherever he plays.

Steve’s first musical love has always been Motown. The timeless sound of Detroit sits at the heart of his collection, from the legendary artists everyone knows to the lesser-played gems that keep dancers coming back for more. Alongside Motown sits another lifelong passion – Northern Soul – the music that first inspired him all those years ago at Wigan Casino. Together they create uplifting, energetic sets full of classic vocals, infectious rhythms and timeless dancefloor favourites.

Today, Steve is one of the resident DJs behind Soul Brew, joining Marc Silverside, Carl Eastwood and Stuart Eastwood in bringing vintage vinyl to dancefloors across Yorkshire. For Steve, Soul Brew represents everything he loves about the scene: original records, welcoming people, friendly venues and an atmosphere where everyone feels at home. It’s never been about showing off rare records—it’s about sharing great music and creating unforgettable memories.

Away from Soul Brew, Steve is available to hire for weddings, birthday celebrations, corporate events, charity fundraisers, clubs and private parties throughout Yorkshire and beyond. Whether it’s an intimate gathering or a packed dancefloor, Steve brings decades of experience, professionalism and an infectious enthusiasm for music that gets people dancing.
